Calorie counting, not so helpful...

Our calorie counting obsession shows no sign of abating. Call me a sceptic but I sincerely believe that calorie counting is just a euphemism for starvation. Why are we so reluctant to let go of the idea that the calories in, calories out equation is somewhat archaic? The focus should be on the quality of the calories we consume rather than quantity. We have all met people for whom calorie counting is a daily ‘mantra’ and who practically live in the gym, yet the weight doesn’t budge and their health doesn't 'blossom'.

The monotherapy approach, that is so pervasive in our society, whether we're dealing with weight loss or a more complex issue isn't delivering the desired results. We need to awaken to the fact that we're all biochemically individual and as such require individualized

programmes / protocols.

Many so called 'diet' foods might have less calories but are loaded with sugar, additives and preservatives - substances that compromise the integrity of our digestive system. And if your digestive system isn't in 'good shape' your overall health will be affected.

So, if your weight isn't shifting the way you'd like, know that there could me many reasons for it: e.g. heavy metal toxicity, suboptimal liver function, inflammation, low thyroid function, digestive insufficiencies or hormonal imbalances.

Don't worry, there is help! Search for an integrative healthcare practitioner (e.g. Naturopath, Ayurveda Practitioner, Nutritional Therapist or Functional Medicine Practitioner) as their approach to health is multifaceted and tailored to your individual needs.

Here is to vibrant health!
